A Lot of Good to Continue Steven’s Hope for Children Programs

For eighteen years, Steven’s Hope had provided families of seriously ill children much needed support. With the closing of the charity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were numerous calls and messages pleading to stay open and keep the highly beneficial programs going.

Although Steven’s Hope will not be continuing to offer services as in the past, many of the projects and programs will continue with A Lot of Good, Inc.

A Lot of Good was founded by Steven’s Hope co-founder, Sandy Cappelli. She took the concept of the small thrift stores Steven’s Hope operated and expanded the operations and the outreach in the community. A Lot of Good has a thrift store located at 1980 W. Foothill Blvd., in Upland, that is the center of the operations.

“A Lot of Good was created to help families and children needing assistance in several areas, not just seriously ill children, although we do that, too” said Sandy Cappelli. “We have partnerships with hospitals and local nonprofits specializing in homelessness, foster care, cancer treatments, underprivileged and underserved, as well as those that have had devastating events like the loss of a home due to fire.”

Currently, ALOG (A Lot of Good) is working with several departments at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, Kasier Permanente and is creating a relationship with San Antonio Regional Hospital.

“Steven’s Hope had Fill A Need, which addressed day-to-day living expenses like transportation, food, clothing and other expenses. At A Lot of Good, that is the Essential Needs Program,” said Cappelli.

“Another program was We Care. That provided activities and other support to families like Easter Baskets, backpacks for school and the Winter Wonderland Program that supplied Christmas presents to hundreds of kids each year. That program is still We Care.”

Currently, the ALOG backpack drive just wrapped up and goods were delivered to Shoes That Fit, as well as, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Details of the Winter Wonderland Project will be made available in mid-September on the A Lot of Good website.

At the present time, the Housing for Hope program is not continuing with ALOG, but it, along with another “grant” program is in planning.
